Jodie Mitchum, Principal
Hi! I'm Jodie Mitchum, Principal at First Flight Elementary School. I have been in education for over 25 years, 20 of which were in the classroom. My first love is learning and helping others learn and grow in all areas of their lives. I also love reading, working in my yard, and long power walks. As a school leader, my door is always open to parents, students, and teachers alike, so please feel free to drop in and introduce yourself.
Jennifer Bass, Assistant Principal
Hello! I’m Jennifer Bass, assistant principal at First Flight Elementary School. I am from Edenton, NC where I taught elementary grades, AIG and was an Instructional Coach for the first 19 years of my career. I earned my National Boards as well as a Masters of School Administration and Curriculum/ Instruction from ECU. I served as a high school assistant principal in Pasquotank County and most recently spent six years with the Department of Public Instruction as the Northeast and North Central Regional Professional Development Coordinator and then as a District Support Coach providing coaching and support to low performing districts and schools in the region.
I am the mother of three girls. The two oldest girls are graduates of NCSU and ECU and now live in Raleigh. My youngest daughter is a high school junior. My husband is the Fire Chief of the Edenton Fire Department. In my free time I love to spend time with my family here at our home in KDH, walking our goldendoodle, Scarlett, and reading.
I am excited to join the FFES staff and look forward to getting back to my roots working with elementary students and teachers.
Please feel free to contact me if I can help in any way. My door is always open.
